🏛️ Third Graders Time Travel at History Museum!

Our third graders kicked off their big Native American Report in style with a fantastic field trip to the San Mateo County History Museum! This rich, hands-on experience gave them a huge head start on understanding the region's history. 🤩

The students explored the "Nature's Bounty" exhibit, gaining essential context for their upcoming research. But the real fun was getting hands-on with Ohlone culture! The class was able to:

  • Grind acorns 🌰
  • Craft shell jewelry 🐚
  • Play traditional Ohlone games

These practical activities allowed them to experience the resourcefulness of the Ohlone people firsthand.

Furthermore, the trip covered how natural resource use evolved across four key historical periods: Ohlone, Spanish, Mexican, and American. This multi-layered perspective gives the students a strong foundation that will be incredibly beneficial when they begin their research and writing in the new year. Way to go, third grade historians! ✍️
